NYC Metrocard 5

Happy New Years to all of you out there!
Whats in store for the New Years you ask?

Say hello to MTA raised fair prices. The 30-day unlimited card cost has been bumped up from $89 to $104.
I have not seen any service improvements in the subway system but rather cause more inconvenience to me. Taking the train on weekends is a nightmare because nothing runs properly.

Other than that, I'm currently taking my very first graphic design class. I'm having a lot of fun and I hope to continue designing with my boyfriend. He's helped me understand a lot about design. I'm glad I'm able to catch up with everyone in the class because this is a pretty advanced course. My friend has also been helping me with some adobe programs.
Hopefully soon enough I can gain enough skills to build my very own blog to share with you.

As always please share your thoughts and comments below.

NYC Metrocard 4

Because I love the cute Target dog (Spot) so much, I decided to have him on my metrocard this month.

I tried the best I can to draw him. Maybe you can draw him much better than me.
It was hard for me because I had such little space to draw.

Challenge:
I'd like all you artistic readers out there to try to draw Spot.
Show me your depiction of him!

NYC Metrocard 3

This month I decided to draw a little birdy. The bird reminds me of twitter haha!
So I decided to draw a bird on my Metrocard so I can remind myself to work hard in school and I'll have plenty of free time after I'm done.

After weeks of stress and hard work, I finally have a free weekend to rest once again. No more midterms to worry about but now I must study hard and be ready for the finals.

If you haven't yet followed me on twitter, what are you waiting for? Click the poor fat birdy on your right and follow me already! If not, he will cry! :(

Also my favorite jewelry designer DSK steph is doing a LV bag give away. Find out how to win on her blog and while you're there check out her beautiful pieces.
Her jewelry is awesome and I wear the necklace my boyfriend got me all the time! I'd feel empty without it!

Any suggestions as to what I should draw on my Metrocard next month?

What is a New Yorker?

A Professor of mine asked us on the first day of class, what does it mean to be a New Yorker?
Some said well you need to live here to be one. Other replied you have to live here at least 10 years. Another stated that you have to be born here.
Which is correct?

He told us that there was New York times article that talked about the MTA or the NYC Subway. It can be tough to use a Metrocard especially if you're new to it all or have never seen such a thing. This article says that you know that you're a New Yorker when you can swipe a Metrocard once and be able to enter the Subway...The class giggled amongst each other because we all knew we hated to be backed up waiting for a free turnstile to enter the Subway. My professor said well when I can't enter the Subway with one swipe I feel like I'm not a New Yorker anymore. There needs to be a fine line between who is or isn't a New Yorker but who's to draw this line?

MTA Not Going My Way

I've developed a love hate relationship with the Subway system here. I love the fact that I can travel anywhere without have to drive but now the price of a ride is raised so high people just rather drive. So we want a greener planet with raised Subway prices with everyone going back to driving? I don't think so! Also why do we still use this stupid Metrocard with a magnet strip that's even worst than a credit card?

I've had to send my card in multiple times because 1) The bus would somehow damage the magnetic strip, 2) Somehow the card gets in contact with my credit cards and it wipes the magnetic strip. Why does this happen in this day in age?! Why can't the card just live side by side with my credit cards? Every time this happens I don't just get a new card back but I have to buy another one (spending more money in that month) and mail the messed up one in so they can determine the refund I get on the other card. This is just very inconvenient!
